Fourth Stimulus Checks Could Be Deposited Automatically
Lawmakers in the United States are pushing for more stimulus checks to be released until the pandemic comes to an end. 26 Democrats have reportedly signed two letters, campaigning for “automatic stabilizers” for potential stimulus checks in the future, and sent them to the White House.
If approved by Congress, this could mean that future stimulus checks will be directly deposited in the bank accounts of millions of eligible Americans. Sources have indicated that the White House is in support of “automatic stabilizers,” so many lawmakers are hoping that it is included as part of President Joe Biden’s upcoming bill – the American Families Plan.
The White House has stated that the purpose of the American Families Plan is “to grow the middle class, expand the benefits of economic growth to all Americans, and leave the United States more competitive.” The Biden administration has also proposed that this bill will “add at least four years of free education, provide direct support to children and families, and extend tax cuts for families with children and American workers.”
However, the American Families Plan is not focused on another round of stimulus check payments. Jen Psaki, the White House Press Secretary, has said the Biden administration will take the requests of Democrats regarding instant relief to Americans, into consideration.
Congressman Jimmy Gomez acknowledged how well President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan has worked. In the letter, he wrote, “The success of the American Rescue Plan, combined with direct financial assistance in the CARES Act and prior federal legislation, is evident in communities nationwide. But we can’t pretend that a $1,400 check will be enough to last a year, and we need to be prepared with a strengthened safety net should a similar economic crisis strike again.”
