How to stop a throbbing headache FAST
Here’s what nobody will tell you about a headache – you can learn how to stop one in its tracks, just by learning to listen to your body. Headaches can be caused by a variety of factors. If you’re stressed, you might be suffering from a tension headache. A fatigue headache is caused by dehydration, migraines can be triggered by heat, stress, flashing lights, or even the onset of menstruation. It can be hard to get on with your day when it feels like there’s a hammer pounding away inside your brain. Here are some easy tips you can try to relieve a headache in no time.
A cold compress or a hot compress:
If you have a migraine, characterized by a throbbing pain usually on one side of the head, wrap a couple of ice cubes in a towel and hold it to your head for about 15 minutes to relieve pain. On the other hand, if you have a tension headache, which feels like a tight band squeezing your head, put a hot towel around your head, neck, and shoulders.
When was the last time you drank a glass of water? If you can’t remember and if your mouth feels dry, you probably have a fatigue headache brought on by dehydration. Drink some water and close your eyes for a few minutes. It may take up to 30 minutes for your headache to completely disappear, but you’ll start feeling better in no time.
Lower the blinds:
If you’re indoors, dim the lights and turn away from your phone screen or laptop. Bright lights and flickering screens can intensify a tension headache.
Breathing deeply is a great relaxation tool and can ease tension in the shoulders, neck, and head. Find a comfortable, quiet spot and close your eyes. Take a deep breath, hold it in for five seconds, and then release it slowly. As you do this, your muscles will relax and the pain in your head will start to ease up.
Get rid of any pressure on your scalp. This could mean removing a hair accessory or loosening a tight ponytail. Using the tips of your figures, gently press your temples, forehead, and neck to relieve pain or throbbing.
