Squid Game Creator Says Trump Influenced The Show
Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of Squid Game, stated that the presidency of Donald Trump was one of the influences that prompted the release of the dystopian series. The South Korean filmmaker was responsible for all the writing and directing of Netflix’s popular Korean-language drama. He revealed that he thought of the show during the global financial crisis of 2008 but got further inspiration for it during the rise of cryptocurrency, tech giants, and Trump’s presidency. Dong-hyuk stated that he felt like now was the right time to release the show after significant global developments took place over the last decade. Watch the video here.
