The guide to looking rich even when you aren’t

‘Rich’ is a relative term, but here’s the kind we mean. Old money. Multiple luxury cars. Private vacation island in the South of France. You CAN look and feel that rich every single day of your life. Even better, you don’t have to break the bank to do it.

Fix your teeth:
Pick a billionaire, any billionaire, and look at her teeth. Are they yellow, stained, or crooked? Rich people have the luxury of getting expensive dental work done. You just need to develop a good dental hygiene routine. Brush your teeth twice a day, floss regularly, and don’t skip dental appointments. Quit smoking and caffeine. If you need a procedure to fix a flaw, figure out what your out-of-pocket costs will be and start working towards saving up for it.

Practice good hygiene:
It’s easy to smell fresh and clean when you show up to places in your Rolls Royce. Not so easy when you spend three hours on the packed New York Subway. Keep a stick of antiperspirant, body spray, deodorant, and a box of mints or sugar-free gum on you. If you sweat a lot, you should also carry a spare shirt you can change into when you get the chance.

Read widely and expose yourself to culture:
It’s not enough to just look rich, you have to talk rich. Visit museums and art galleries, watch documentaries about diverse subjects, and read reputed magazines, newspapers, and books to appear well-read, well-traveled, and knowledgeable.

Tweak your wardrobe:
Here’s what nobody will tell you. You can fake looking rich even with what you have in your closet. Put aside items that are torn, worn out, or ill-fitting. Black is a color that wears well and looks luxurious. With jewelry, remember less is more and understated pieces trump flashy baubles. Go thrifting and keep an eye out for fine leather goods which instantly make an outfit look chic and expensive.

Take care of your skin and grooming:
You can’t afford to get your lips done or make a botox appointment. That’s why you need a skincare routine that involves cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. Give yourself a weekly manicure and pedicure. If you’re a man, groom your facial hair regularly or go clean-shaven.
